Quick Guide
From install to your first file request in a few minutes. Steps 1 to 4 are for a Jira administrator; step 5 is for whoever will create links.
Install Secure File Exchange
Install the app on your Jira Cloud site from the Atlassian Marketplace, and approve the access it asks for (listed under Data & Security). It works in Jira and Jira Service Management from the start, with its default policy.
Review the policy
Go to Jira settings → Apps → Secure File Exchange → Policies. Check the defaults and decide on passwords, file types, the largest file and how long files are kept. Optionally, set a storage limit on the Storage tab. See Policies.
Decide who can create links
By default, anyone who can add attachments to a work item can create links. To allow only some people, switch the Permissions tab to the Share files externally permission and grant it. In Jira Service Management this is usually the better choice. See Who Can Create Links.
Tell your team
Let the people who will create links know where the panel is, and point them to this documentation.
Request your first files
Open a work item, add the Secure File Exchange panel through View app actions if it isn't there yet, and click Request files. Choose an expiry, click Create link, then Copy message and send it to the person. When they upload, you get a comment on the work item. See Request Files.

Check in after a few days
Look at the Usage page for the space used and the projects using the app, and at the Audit log for what happened to each link. See Usage and Audit Log.
