Quick Start Guide

This guide walks through one small rule: on the Create screen, hide Due date when someone creates a Bug with High priority. A high-priority bug gets fixed right away, so asking for a due date only adds noise. Every other Formify rule is built in the same dialog, so once this one works you know the whole flow.

You need project administrator permissions in the project, and Formify installed. Not installed yet? See Installation & Setup.

Create the rule

  1. Open the field in Formify

In your project, open Space settings and select Formify under Apps. The Create Issue tab lists the fields on the project's create screens. Select Due date.

Formify lists the fields for each screen

  2. Add a visibility rule

The field's page has one tab per kind of rule: Visibility, Required, Value, Read-only, Description and Name. Stay on Visibility and select Add Rule.

Select Add Rule on the Visibility tab

  3. Limit it to bugs and pick the action

In Scope, set Work type to Bug, so stories and tasks are not affected. Under Action, select Hide field.

Add Field Visibility Rule dialog with Work type set to Bug and Hide field selected

Scope set to Bug, action set to Hide field

  4. Add the condition

Under When (Conditions), select Add Condition, then Field value. Set Field to Priority, Condition to equals and Value to High, and select Save. Then select Create Rule.

Field value condition with Priority equals High

    The condition: Priority equals High

The rule appears on the Visibility tab as "Hide due date when Priority equals High" and is active straight away.

  5. Try it on the Create screen

Select Create, choose Bug as the work type and leave Priority at Medium. Due date is on the form.

Create Bug dialog with Priority Medium and the Due date field visible

Priority Medium: Due date is visible

Now change Priority to High. Due date disappears without reloading the form, and comes back when you switch Priority to another value.

Create Bug dialog with Priority High and no Due date field

Priority High: Due date is hidden

If the field doesn't hide

  • Check the work type. The rule only runs for Bug; on a Story or Task the field stays.
  • Check the project. Rules belong to the project they were created in.
  • Check the field is on the screen. Formify can only hide a field that Jira already shows on the Create screen.
